About Us
Created in 1978, the GIC has come to be recognized as a key advocate for refugee and immigrant rights in Canada, educating the public and putting issues onto the national agenda. The GIC fulfils its mission by:
▪ Delivering programs in cooperation with key networks to strengthen the defence of immigration and refugee rights, and procedures;
▪ Providing opportunities for networking and professional development through conferences, working groups, publications and meetings;
▪ Creating inclusive spaces that bridge cultural gaps and combat isolation, while promoting systemic changes to reduce barriers for all newcomers;
▪ Accelerating settlement by delivering immediate housing, language, and legal navigation support;
▪ Advocating for rights for refugees and immigrants through media relations, government relations, research and public education.
This 2026 Annual Review has been created and shared with all GIC stakeholders, including our donors and the many volunteers who enable this nonprofit organization to deliver immigration.

Who We Help
Who We Help: The 2026 immigration policy in Canada is dedicated to 380,000 new permanent residents (PR). Of these, 239,800 (63%) are temporary residents already in Canada who are transitioning to PR, and who rely on local volunteers for counciling and community networking.
Approximately 13% to 15% of the immigration policy in Canada is dedicated to refugees and protected persons, creating a significant and continuous opportunity for Canadians to provide vital entry support.

We celebrate our incredible volunteer team whose daily commitment continues to shape a more welcoming country for everyoneby guiding hundreds of newcomer families through their first critical months in Canada.
Through tireless language tutoring, career mentorship, and neighborhood orientation, they have turned overwhelming barriers into shared successes!
